IF WE FORGET THE PAST WE ARE DESTINED TO REPEAT IT
In 2015 H-1B, L-1, F-1 OPT Hell continued as in previous years, IT workers continued to be canned while being forced to train their Indian replacements. This became a hot issue during 2015 and the vicious layoffs at Disney and SunTrust was the wild fire.
IT Hell was Upon Us - IT Sucks. This trend accelerated as is stated in one post “IT is not fun anymore, the typical IT developer is constantly looking over his or her shoulder, never knowing when that surprise pink-slip is coming down. Get ready to train your replacement worker, that means get your duffel bag positioned, you may have to pack your gear and head to the rear of the unemployment line, include your GOD BLESS AMERICA flag and sticker.”
In the year 2015 Sara Blackwell legally slammed Disney for its vicious labor practices. The New York Times published a landmark article on the Disney debacle on June 3, 2015, that articles prompted thousands of comments. The backlash against Disney continues throughout the country - now it seems like everyone has heard about Disney firing of 200+ workers and having them train their Indian H-1B replacements. It was a horrible act of corporate malfeasance performed by a company founded on American Main Street and family values. The Magic Kingdom lost its magic. And when that old magic door knocked, Sara Blackwell opened that door and walked in with a RICO EEOC lawsuit that shook up corporate America.
Sara Blackwell became famous in the Disney New York Times article that broke open the H-1B debacle in America, she continued her admirable quest by providing a help line to knowledge transfer canned workers all over the USA under the entity of Protect US Workers. Sara organized and staged the first IT worker street protest about Disney practices. Suddenly IT Workers had some hope for relief instead of crying in their bedrooms waiting for their home disclosure notices.
After Disney, the cruel layoffs became the corporate trend as KT or knowledge transfer occurred at Fossil, Hartford Insurance, and Toys ‘R’ Us. SunTrust Bank shocked the IT community by laying off over 100 IT staff forcing employees with a new twist, you have to be on call for two years and be available for face-to-face meetings to assist the Indians with NO PAY in order to get severance pay. This was on top of the knowledge transfer and being replaced by a young cheap foreign know nothing guest workers. The SunTrust severance clause of being on call to facilitate technical problem solving for two years with no pay brought in a whole new level of corporate H-1B humiliation.
The pot was boiling in the IT world, and IT workers began to crawl out of fear and started to notify the media and even the SAVE page warning of layoffs ahead. This provided fear for employers knowing that media attention that was laid out by Computer World and the New York Times would not go unnoticed by the general public. Now it seems like everybody in America heard about the humiliation knowledge transfer layoffs and they did not like it. The SAVE page came up with a new slogan “CAN YOU IMAGINE LOSING YOUR JOB TO A FOREIGN WORKER AND THEN TRAINING THAT FOREIGN GUEST WORKER AS YOUR REPLACEMENT? I ask anybody reading this, how would you like it? Welcome to my World!” Soon the H-1B layoffs would become a social economic political issue.
It was the year of Senator Jeff Sessions. He spearheaded letter with bipartisan group of 10 Senators demanding a federal investigation into the abuse of the H-1B visa program. Finally, some movement in the Senate, later in Year 2015 he stated up front: “ The H-1B program is a “tremendous threat” to American professionals!” A Sessions aide, a Stephen Miller later became major force on H-1B issues for the Trump White House. A major Senate hearing on the issue was soon to come.
The book authored by Michelle Malkin and John Miano, “Sold Out: How High-Tech Billionaires and Bipartisan Beltway Crapweasels Are Screwing America's Best and Brightest Workers” was published in the fall of 2015 and had an immediate influence due to the empirical evidence and references backed by impeccable research. The book became a “must” read on the history and policy issues regarding H-1B, L-1, F-1 OPT and STEM issues.
At last IT had a solid book to fight against the corporate propaganda and media misinformation that was been disseminated in favor of the Indians and their lobbyist forces on congress.
2015 was a break through year for IT professionals, even though major layoffs occurred, a new fighting spirit emerged with the assistance of Sara Blackwell and the New York Times, Computer World and Sold Out all provided ammunition for IT workers to speak out to reporters behind the scenes and on the street. The fight the Save American IT jobs entered a new stage in a new arena.
